Sudden Obsession

I have a sudden obsession to travel to Detroit on a photographic pilgrimage of sorts.

I have always really loved urban decay, it is a revealing area of aesthetics and a area that shows the impermanence of life, lifestyles and people. The decay of our modern structures is as close as I will (hopefully) come to seeing the ruins of our society. A decrepit building holds my attention because it is frighteningly beautiful.  In Montana we have homesteads but those are crafted form wood as opposed to the Michigan Central Station and the Lee Plaza Hotel which are crafted from steel. These metal giants are our monuments to our god: money.

With the decay of these monuments we are left to wonder, is it worth it? Was is worth it? Here we see our creations falling apart, years ragging on what we call permanence. And then before our eyes the monument is reclaimed by time, by nature and by the out casts. These luxurious buildings become homes to the homeless, rats and mold.

Its amazing!!

IACURH National Conference

Today I am starting my first-real-amazingly large job as a photographer.

Its a tad bit over-whelming.  The conference has over 400 people and I am the ONLY photographer for it.  Which seems crazy but its not. This is the first time i've photographed an event this large and this long but it will be a beautiful  addition to my resume. BEAUTIFUL.

So wish me luck? Ill post photos.

Also I am working in 4X5 for negatives and will post some of that work here soon.

Cat Walk to Clean Water 2010

So this is a good place to start! These are my entries for Cat Walk to Clean Water 2010, an Engineers Without Borders Fundraised.

The models are Jean and Sarah. Each dress is made of recovered trash bags, cardboard and pop cans. The colored pieces are the bag ties for the garbage bags. These dresses are 100% recovered materials and held together with hemp.

The show was on November 5th and I won no awards.

This is my third year participating in their fund-raiser.

If you are interested in 2008 and 2009 designs they can be seen here:

The Beginning

This Blog is...well a way for me to express what I cannot sometimes.

I promise it will be:

honest.

And thats it. I will be honest with you and myself. I will tell you though, that is a hefty promise. I guess honesty is painfully difficult for me- not because I am a liar but because I can be a coward.

There are things that I am not proud of right now.

I am dissatisfied with my life and I have everything I need. Maybe thats why I'm an artist- apparently we all suffer for our art ...or our art suffers for us.

Anyways there is no cohesive theme for this first post- I'm writing it so it will exist.

Do you ever just need to put something down into writing so  it will exist? I do. All the time actually.

I wish so badly to write down my secrets, my dreams and my fears- but I'm terrified that someone somewhere will find it and it will tare them to pieces. Mayhap we will over-come that with time? Lose the fear and take the full consequence of our actions?

We will see I guess.
